North Platte, Neb. – North Platte High School announces the addition of girls wrestling as a winter sports option for the 2022-2023 school year. Interest in girls wrestling for NPHS students has grown since the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) announced it would be recognized as a sanctioned high school sport in 2021.
Jimmie Rhodes, Director of NPHS Activities, met with twenty-five young ladies who were interested in participating in wrestling. In a conversation with Rhodes, he stated, ‘we are in pursuit of offering quality programs that interest our students at North Platte High School.’ Rhodes added, ‘girls wrestling has gained not only support in North Platte but across the state and nation.’ In a December 7, 2021, 1011now.com online news report, the NSAA reported that 700 – 800 high school students had planned to participate in girls wrestling.
Rhodes is currently working with Dale Hall, Head Coach of Wrestling, to hire an Associate Head Coach of Girls Wrestling for the NPHS team. This new position will oversee the program and care of the female athletes while working with the current wrestling coaches to support all NPHS wrestlers.
